I dont know what to do...
A friend has offered to buy my 2.0 8v out of my Golf.
Do I sell it to him?
If I sold it, I could convert the Golf to VR6 like the original plan was. This would still leave me in financial debt, but at least I'd be driving round in a mk2 vr......
If I sell my Golf as it is (but running) I would be able to pay my credit card off. This would leave me with a VR6 engine and a Polo. hmmmm
Still kinda up for finding out how to put the VR in the GT.. yeah, it prolly wouldnt be the best handling car in the world, but it would be so fuggin quick on the motorway! And how cool would it be to park up at a vw meet in a ok-ish looking polo, pop the bonnet and have 2.8 litres of v6 starring back out at you!!!
If the vr goes in the golf I would need to but subframes, rad, fans, and a few other bits, but all that would be covered from the sale of the 8v.... however I would need new wheels (as the vr brakes I have are 5 stud..)
If the vr goes in the polo, I would need all the same, but would probably have to fork out for some smaller 4-pot brakes that could squeeze behind 4-stud 14's....
I love my Golf. I dont really want to have to sell it. It is sooooo much ruder than my Polo.
I just don't f'in know.

I've been told that there is a vr mk3 coup in england already..... and another in Germany.
I need to find out exactly what these boys had to do to get the engines in.
Would also like to know what running gear they used. Did they go for the 4-stad wheels with big brakes, or did they convert to 5-stud hubs and run the vr 288mm brakes behind 15's.
I pretty much have all I need to do the conversion, as I doubt they used mk3 Golf subframes to mount it all on. More likely they had to fabricate custom subframes.
Anyone have any links or info on these cnversions??

VR6 Golf 2 is pretty common. Sick. But common.
A Polo VR6... That's special.
I say - keep those wheels (Pirelli's) and lose the VR6 5 stud brakes. Go for Mk5 Gti brakes (4 stud, 256mm) and you'll be Ok. I think. At least they'll fit behind the Pirellis.
Add the roof bars, go to meetings, make people drool.
I dig the Mk2 though, but the above is what I'd try. If I come across a German running a VR in there, I'll ask his ears off.

If I was to do the conversion I would go for some aftermarket 2 or 4 pots.. I have seen some nice ones for around £350 which I would need some carriers fabricating for. 256mm would fit behind 14's as that's the combinatin that mk2 16v's use.
It is very tempting to put the vr6 in the polo, but until I have found out exactly what is involved it is still only a pipe dream.... I have some investigating to do.
I know that vwforum.nl has a lot of users, so keep you ears to the ground dude!!

I will - I also lurk on PCR a lot, I'll do a search and see if anything comes up. PCR is that German board - strictly Polo's.
Are there any aftermarket 256mm kits out there? Never knew - but then I never actually looked either. Usually the bigger stuff is advertised. Anyway. Off to you's da surge.

aftermarket 256? they r standard on polo mk4 16v, which u could then upgrade 2 280mm golf g60 set up-thats my plan.
or get larger wheels, 16's or 15in compomotive with different ET and get 305mm 4pots
(seat have large brake set-ups as standard on some of their newer motors and parts are quite interchangeable)

A few thoughts on putting a VR into a mK 3 polo:
Firstly because of the weight, the suspension would need be heavy duty, uprated springs shocks and wishbone supension.
The engine would have to go on a custom subframe and because of the size lots of things would need to be re-located etc. The engine bay would need seam welding completly and possibly extra bracing in places. G40's have cracked the chassis before.
Then theres the question of getting a box to fit with linkage and custom driveshafts etc.
As for big brakes, a Mk 1 golf hi-spec four pot 270mm setup would be useful. Mk 2/3 golf hubs and brakes are different so cant be used.

A Golf VR is a fast car, but very common now. It will look impressive at shows, nothing else.
However, a VR GT would put you in the Dub scenes elite. those few nutter that set the trends. Yes it will be loads of work and hassle - but so is a 20vt Mk4, thats what makes it fun
Go for it mate, you'll be glad you did when its finished!
