general question really, if ive got 15's on me car at the moment, and wanted to lower it, say, by 50mm, what exactly would i be looking to buy? im a bit of a newbie you see.....
cheers
why is it that new shocks are needed? is it for safety or better handling or what? i was gone get some lowering springs from Jamex, -60 front -40 back and just leave my old shocks, would this not be advisable?
like lewmk4 said, "im a bit of a newbie you see....."
Can make the car feel bumpy...
(Not sure how safe or unsafe it is so cant comment on that but someone else may know)
So if you want better handling... shocks + springs is what you need
standard shocks are for the standard springs, therefore if you change the springs its advisable to change the shocks too (although im not exactly sure why!! possibly to do with extra stress on the new springs??)
Standard shocks are matched to the standard spring and work against the stiffness of the standard spring. If you shorten the spring and also increase the stiffness the standard shock is a) working in a different range as it is as though the car is already 40 mm through it's travel before it has even started and b) not strong enough to control the spring rate of the new spring.
What you get is a car that bounces back up after the compression rather than just controlling the spring and levelling the car out. Not a nice feeling, and not good for handling on bumpy corners/roads i.e every road in the UK pretty much!
wasnt shocks man, i got told and i believe myself that unless u go lower then 50mm getting new shocks isnt a must you can cope without, and yeh i love it lowered used 2 act strange on bumps got the tracking done and sorted compelty fine man
serious? cus i was after some jamex springs, -60 front and -40 back but wasnt sure if needed new shocks, but if you say so, and from experience all i need is tracking after then i'll probably do like u and just go for the -50 all round. what u reckon? as -60 at the fron probably be too much huh?
