ive got a test drive in a black one 2morrow at my local stealers, not interested in getting one though! too much money for the car i feel 15k for a lower specced car than the 6n2 and not that much of a power increase. I think i would prefer a 225 TT or mk4 r32, one of them will be my next car, however i am curious to drive the new polo gti to see if it has the credentials to be called a baby golf gti

Personally I don't really like it, I don't like the thought of having a 'baby golf' they should of made it look different in some way and they should of used the 180bhp engine.

The thing is with the polo, in standard form it's never been that good a handling car and at nearly £15k for a basic specced one theres far better 'drivers cars' out there, fiesta ST, Mini cooper S, clio 182 to name a few.

I've read a few roadtests and they all say the competition handles better which is what lets the new polo down, and the price of course.

I guess it's all down to personal taste but I couldn't justify spending that sort of money on a car when the competition is better, rather like it's bigger brother the golf gti. Sorry but it's a thumbs down from me

Well they must of improved the handling on the Mk7 because mine is pretty decent, but then I do have the Sport model

It's still the same chassis/suspension set-up as the MK6 model tho, and tbh mine doesn't handle that well especially compared to the cooper s and 182 I've recently driven. Hopefully the GTI model will have a better setup

But then I wouldn't compare a standard Polo to a Cooper S or 182, as those two will obviously have better handling

True, but I just can't see the gti handling as well as them, wouldn't mind taking one out for test drive and finding out!

i hate and i mean hate, 90% of the interiors of the mark 7 range.

Only ones i like are the leather range in black and white the all blackcloth interiors as i think the standard gti interior is w**k i..e the one thats in that pic . any 1 else agree

I had one of the first Clio 172's and now have a 9N2 and the handling of the Clio was loads better than the Polo.

I used to take the Clio on the local track and could easily get times of 1:21.8s per lap, which is very repectable.

Golf 4 GTI's, the 150bhp model would only come in at 1:23 something.

I have a mate with a new chipped PD130 could only manage a 1:28 something, and he's a VW Challange racing driver so definately knows how to drive.

I'd guess that the Polo GTI would come in slightly slower than the Golf 4 GTI.

I'm actually quite disappointed with the Polo GTI, and they aren't available yet locally, and would much rather get a PD130, chip it, and sort out the suspension with decent coilovers, and the price would be about the same as the GTI but with a much better handling, much driving car in my opinion

I think the Polo GTI interior is nicer than the Golf's. And the Mk5 and Mk6/7 dashboards are really good
