There are thin gaps down each side of the headunit, approx half inch in from the edge. You need to use keys to take it out.
I've no idea what make the cd changer is or if you can run it from an aftermarket headunit. Try a search though as i'm sure it's been discussed before.
possible way of doing it, is to remove the box underneath the cd player, by a little force and then the cd player should come out with it. Be careful though because it can cause minor damage if not done carefully. Although by far the easiest method is to use the keys to the stereo, however more often than not they aren't provided. You can get one of them multi key things for 80 pounds, that will let you take out any headunit, however that is ridiculously expensive and you're not very likely to use it in future.
£80 for multiple car stereo keys - i dont think so these can be easily got hold of for less but i shall not go into this
Back on topic...if you find that none of the above works then 1. dont take it to halfords these guys are a bunch of monkeys 2. just pop over to your local vw garage and ask if they can pop out the stereo for you
well 80 quid is what a local car dealer told me how much it will be to get some. Yer i would definitely not recommend doing it by force and only as a last resort, i damaged my contents box like that and had to go buy a new one
I can't get the standard head unit out of my 6n and its driving me mad! I got the keys from Halford apparently they are the right ones. Ive been trying for what seems ages but they just don't latch onto anything. It said in the Haynes that the holes for the keys are at the right and top left as you look at the unit, any help much appreciated and sorry to take over the thread.
