I'd heard about them, the idea behind it is that the Supercharger deals with lower end power while the Turbo is spooling then that takes over the higher end of the rev range.

Twincharger, pretty cool piece of engineering to be fitted to a mainstream car.
As for sourcing one, not going to be many options seen they have just been released, unless you're going to source one direct and pay a stupid amount of money.
Or wait until the first person gets carried away with their Golf GT and puts it backwards through a hedge I guess.

To be honest if you were going to stick a GTi engine in it it would probably be just as cheap if not cheaper to get a GTi.

I agree.
Not really worth fitting a GTi block, unless you can somehow get one for not very much money at all, and have it fitted for even less.
Otherwise it's best to just buy a GTi, or dump a 1.8T in. But then we're talking lots of money.

Well they are getting on a bit now.
Though saying that, mine has only just done over 30'000.

Most GTi's now as Redline says are getting on a bit, they're 6 years old now.
Average mileage would be about 60k+

Dont bother with a turbo. Too much hassel and a lot of cash for not a lot of gain.
Best conversion option at the mo seems to be the 1.8T VAG engine. You can get it in 150, 180 and 220 bhp versions and they are always some available
Your looking at 6K+ for a decent conversion though. Much more if you want lots of power (Ash payed about 15K for his 320bhp 1.8T conv I think)
Has anyone done a mk3 G40 conversion into a mk5 yet?
