A cheap induction idea?

Alright guys, after having a week of doing nothing and relaxing i got a few ideas and one of them was a cheap induction idea for my little polo.

My idea is to run a small-ish hose from the air box to the front grill where there is already a hole

I figured maybe some 2inch pond hose with some foil wrapped round (to repel heat) as its bendy would probably work well and then i would have two air feeds to the box and improve throttle response for the price of a metre of some hose.

Any ideas?

Paul, instead of drilling a hole in your box and going later "shouldn't of done that" this is the way i have my induction

then maybe you can bypass the hose towards the front of the induction aswell as the side feed where your air mass meter is

i picked that filter up on ebay for about Â£25 as an unwanted present still does the same job and sounds ace

correct me if im wrong anyone else

RR, it may be worth putting a heat shield on the right hand side of your filter, when the engine is warm you're going to suck in hot air off the side of the engine

But yes, otherwise, it looks pretty tidy

i take it you've taken the ring filter out of the original airbox?

yeah i was about to question those two points.

I would think that in your inductions position it would suck up alont of hot air being next to the manifold, affecting performance. Secondly why have you kept the original air box? If your ran a pipe direct from your filter on to the throttle body you would gain more performance

Not really got an issue with butchering my airbox, they are cheap and plentiful. Was thnking a direct cold air feed from the front grill would be the best way without sucking in engine bay heat.

i just have a K&N filter slapped in replecing the whole air box, i think this drinks petrol more quicker than an induction kit, is this true? coz my girlfriend has offered 2 buy me eitha an induction kit or 2 get my front windows tinted, i think i will get the windows done but how well are induction kits?

It will drink more fuel because it adds more air to the mix and therefore burns faster, getting rid of fuel faster. The problem with your filters location is that its sucking in all the hot air from the engine and that can actually lower performance. The most successful induction kits are those that force the colder, denser, more oxygenated air into the fuel mix which is why i was planning on a cold air feed to the box

Dragon: i have a heatshield coming at the moment, the cars not being driven at the moment as i have a few things being done to it, yeah the ring filter is out the original airbox

Paul: i have kept the original airbox cos im not wanting to take stuff out and have it looking empty, Vw tech in my work advised me to just keep it on as it will just to the same job again as Dragon said about the heatshield, i have one coming

but if you do what you do, let us know about it
