Mk1 Polo Lowering?

Post by mk1jones »

Hi, I am new on here, so hello everyone.

I have a mk1 Polo GLS (1981). i love it too much. i have just passed my driving test as well (a week ago). i cant wait to get it out on the road. i am getting some ATS Classics for it. but i want to get it lowered as well. Can anyone recomend any particular way to do it? (makes, lowering by what amount? etc.)
also, anyone know of any cheap insurance companies?

When I brought it...

i will post some Pictures of it when i have my wheels and stuff...

Need some higher resolution pics!

As for lowering kits... mk1/2/3 suspension is all the same (most kits are usually advertised as mk2/3). Ive got a Gmax -40mm kit from Venom, but they also do a -70mm which is properly low if you're going for ATS Classics

Other kits are available, a lot of people get 40/60 kits from germany at a good price, and im currently after a good set of ride height and damping adjustable coilovers.

You can go mad with these things, but I would suggest getting a full kit of springs and dampers, as the original dampers probably wont last too long with lowered springs, and you will want uprated dampers if your going for wider wheels

Hope that helps

Dude, nice to have another MK1 on the scene :D

I recently just passed my test and i've got a MK1, although i believe yours is a 1.3 isn't it? - mines a 900cc :)

Lower it defo :D but don't by any means stick ATS Classics on it, they are nice but everyone has them.. search for something slightly rarer or that most people don't have.. make it more of a personalisation :)

I'll show u some picz of mine, in 2 weeks it'll be dropped 80/60 and be on 165/60 13s with 5.5J 13" Exip refurbed 1980s alloys :D

cheers for everyones help. i agree that ATS Classics have been done to death, but, im abit straped for cash and can get some quite cheap, and all that aside... they do look real cool.

Yeah it was an Ebay car by the way. had to travel to the edge of the uk to get it, it was like 5 hours there, 5 hours back. but worth it.

cheers x

i've got a set just like the top set, MSW kings 8)

do look fantastic, can't wait to finally refurb those bad boys :D

i know ATS classics are everywhere nowadays but they do look fantastic still though, so i wouldn't feel ashamed to drive a car with them on but i personally would like something slightly different if i could choose, but then that's just me not wanting to be a clone, hence the squareback i guess
