polo 98 (R -Reg) fan/tensioner

Post by MARKBLACK »

Hi, I have a polo 1 litre (1998) I am getting a squealing noise from the fan belt tensioner. I assume it’s a new one needed, but I don’t know what to buy (are they costly and easy to get hold of?) are they easy to fit also – any help appecaited....

Is the squeeling just when your setting off? ie first gear.
It could just be that your fan belt needs tightening as the squeeling tends to be the belt just being a little too slack.

Yeah...... i thought this was my clutch being knackered for ages :D It's pretty simple to do, so long as your alternator bolts aren't totally seized. beg/borrow/steal a haynes manual and take a mosey. (finally figured mine out and fixed it on a petrol station forecourt  lol)

also forces you to take a look at the whole affair, which if i'd done at another time would have saved an AA callout when the thing wore out and eventually wrapped itself around the alternator in shards. (it must have been looking crap for ages, and it's simple / cheap to replace)
