air filter
right im not very good at engines....ive got a 1.4 8v and want to put an air filter on, can anyone post any pics if they have one. if therye k&n a part number would be top quality!
have u noticed any improvements with that induction kit? because its getting a nice feed of warm air... atleast take the warm air feed and pipe it some place else rather than directly at the induction kit. i took mine off after my car started drinking petrol. i think the amount which the induction kit will cost u in fuel costs you could save for a full system exhaust and have a nicer note from that. rather than the induction kit note because apart from sounding a little more gruntier i really dont think they are worth it unless done perfect and even then its buggerrall improvement. on the other hand if u want to buy my K&Ni off me PM me because it hasnt gone back on after i cleaned it with the k&n kit. 50 quid they are new and i used it about 3months before it stayed off for good. The 8V polo's arnt no speed machines so make the most of the economy and get the most out of your petrol tanks. The money that u save by not havin the induction kit you'll have to spend on the polo. i think induction kits have a certain placebo effect when u first have one. They make your car gruntier so you think its faster due to the sound and then you rev it that little bit more because it sounds faster and you end up thinking with the extra revs and grunt combined that its made your car 10x faster when in reality if its not piped to a cold air feed or isnt positioned perfect with no warm air and loads of cold air flow you are more than likely loosing power than gaining anything atall. Why didnt VW do it as standard?

you won't get a power increase with any induction kit if you do it would be negligible,i noticed a better throttle response, the warm air feed is no where near 'pointing' at the induction kit ive taken the pipe that was ther originally and fitted it as a cold air induction also there is air coming through from behind the light into air filter fromt he original air duct's VW put in, im also going to fit a heat shield, also why didnt vw do it why dont toyota fit one to the supra? or any other perormance car maker because of cost, its cheaper to fit a air box.luke wrote:have u noticed any improvements with that induction kit? because its getting a nice feed of warm air... atleast take the warm air feed and pipe it some place else rather than directly at the induction kit.when in reality if its not piped to a cold air feed or isnt positioned perfect with no warm air and loads of cold air flow you are more than likely loosing power than gaining anything atall. i like my sales tricks too, but after already knowing that they do buggerall people insist on using them, it was said sarcastically. If you are using a heatshield and have sorted out the warm air feed which is obviously going directly to the induction kit from the picture should be a little better but seems like a lot of hassle for hardly noticable gains. You are paying for a heat shield, induction kit, pipping all for your car to drink even more petrol and rubbish gains. It would be interesting to see some rolling road results of 8v polo's with just an induction kit/without and with an induction kit just slapped on top of the engine with no cold air feed and lots of warm air going to it to see if there is a loss/gain in power. After using one and not using one i prefer the standard airbox with the k&N filter but probably because it damages the wallet a little less. Theres a little bit of a difference between a supra and a polo lets be honest for the maximum gain 10% on a 60bhp polo induction kit and exhaust would be 6bhp on a supra it could be alot more than 6BHP gain easily. Its a polo at the end of the day they are for looks more than speed unless you have serious work done or an engine conversion. i dont think they do jack except let your car drink a little more petrol. If you think it makes your car go like a missile then fair enough. But money should be spend on other things first such as coilovers rather than induction kits. yes i wasted a good 50 quid on just the induction kit which could of been saved for coilovers. Its just down to the owner at the end of the day. I prefer to not use one and get a little bit more out of the petrol tank.
