crunching noise selecting gears

Post by nick_khl88 »

Well basically whenever i put the gear into reverse, it makes some sort of a crunch/grinding noise..and sometimes i have to force the gear in as it won't go into gear smoothly. It has also got 'stuck' when in reverse also.

Anyone know what the problem may be, and what i need to do to sort it out?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

There's no synchro mesh for reverse and it crunches on all cars really. It does do it quite bad on mk5s, you just need to go slow!

If you keep cramming it you will break it, which you might have allready if it gets stuck. Just go into reverse slowly :)

^^^^yup, have to agree there, its the same on all mk5's really, just dont stick into reverse if your rolling forward at all! it wont go in, no matter how slow you go really. just take your time, and treat the box nice!

i get this too... even when im at a complete stop... what i usually do is put the car into 1st move eeeeevver so slightly then put it back into reverse. this usually works 99% of the time.
(apart from the other day :S )
