Gamma radio fault

Post by bertJ »

Hope you regard this as a valid posting as we have a Polo 1.4 tdi SE with the same Gamma radio as in a friend's Passat. I know that they aren't the best radios in the world but has anyone suggestions about the following please?
The Gamma radio in his Passat tdi been working perfectly. Today it worked OK with the engine off but as soon as the ignition and/or engine was switched on the signal on Radio 2, 3 and 4 practically disappeared with loads of 'mushy' interference, also the radio sometimes started to seek for a stronger signal. I've checked the frequencies (they haven't changed) and also retuned but no improvement. The Gamma radio in our Polo is fine on the same frequencies so it's not the radio stations themselves.
Nothing has been touched on the car.

sounds like the condensers (think thats them heads all over the place today) have gone, basically they just filter out the interferance :?
