Tailgate Lock???? Newbie Question

Post by GingerGogs »

Hi, I can see from past topics that you guys really know your stuff on what is a great car. However a problem we have at the moment is that the lock barrel in our tailgate is stuck. After half a can of WD40 and prodding aimlessly at it with the key, the key will click in, but will not turn even a little. Any suggestions on what might work before having to shell out for another lock? The car already has a seperate key for the central locking, so another lock is the last resort!
Thanks in advace....

this is a long shot vut its worth a try ant=yways.

have a look inside the tailgate under the cover at the lock mecanisum to see if its jammed or stuck in some way cos on my car i can turn the barrel through 360 degrees with a "key" in it and open the boot you will see what i mean when you look inside the lock isnt exactly secure

i cant give to much detail on here cos it might help theves aswell. if you want ill go and take a picture of the mecanisum and show you where it can stick and where you can get the lock to force past.

mine is the exact same at the minute man aswell how i open it is go in from teh inside, lift the parcel shelf, get a screw driver an u can pop the lever back an ''chazam'' the boot opens, but i think u will need a new latch dude, so im goin 4 the automatic job, so wen u hit a button it pops open

Yeh, poloboi, thats what we're doing. My thumb is now strong enough to replace the screwdriver (through over a month of practice), but a new lock has just been bought, so hopefully the saga is over. I think a new lock barrell is the only way to fix this, as trying to force it with the key really makes the key bend.

Thanks for everyones advice!
