hi, ive just bought a 96 polo and the boot wont open, no dents or anything so i cant see why it cannot b opened. Will i have to replace the lock or are there some other tricks i should know about?

also, i need to know what paint code it is, its like a metalic dark blue colour

Paint code should be in your boot on the left hand side under the carpet

pull your seats down from inside and lift the shelf off.

If the Lock is stuck you will need WD-40 for this,

Open the we latch with key and using the straw with the can spray in the lock and give it a wiggle about then do around the edges.

Just apply more but dont do it too hard that you break your key yeah?

looks like something has snapped in the opening mech, gonna have to visit a scrappie me thinks, thanks for ure help tho guys!

We have the same problem. (Same coloured car to by the sounds of it, but that doesnt matter). I dunno how willing a scrappy would be to give the ignition key away for the boot lid, as its more useful to them for other things. Volkswagen aren't all that expesive for a new lock barrel, we were quoted £31 + vat for a 1998 spec, so u might be as well just by a new one.

ye looks like thats what im gonna have to do, the paint code for mine is LN5Y(WINDSOR BLUE)

my boot dosnt open eitha man, well not from teh outside but u can open it from da inside, lift the shlef up an get a screw driver an where the latch is there is a little lever u can hit it wit the screw driver an '' chazam '' the boot opens, well thats me way :lol:
