The CUP GTI is getting closer

Post by dxg »

VW are rumoured to have been prompted into action over the lukewarm reception that the Polo GTI has recevied in the press.

As a consequence, the CUP version of the GTI seems to be getting closer (on the continent, at least). 180hp version of the 1.8T now confirmed, and a whole bunch of official press images (although none on the UK press site).

I wonder how it will stack up against the Clio CUP 197?

Still should have Xenons as standard, all GTi's should IMO.

With the 180 (I'm assuming it's the same as the Golf MK4 1.8T) there's the potential if you use AMD to get between 35bhp exta for - £646.25 (Fitted Inc. VAT) and an 80bhp increase for - £2937.50 (Fitted Inc. VAT)

Hmm, getting better.

Though really for a Cup edition it needs to be stripped out, two bucket seats and a six speed box.

hmmmm that looks spanky!! would look awesome in black me thinks!! the normal polo gti i saw was in black and i thought it looked good!! but that will look even better!!

Custom Code phase one remap, 205-210bhp for £450, would suit me down the ground!

I wonder if it will be cheaper than the GTI, with it being a cup version I presume it will come without air con/climate have manual windows, lighter panels etc

As much as I love the Monzas those wheels on the cup look stunning. The whole car looks better. VW should of made a better effort at the start, because the press have always been picky with the Polo. A 182 is faster than a Mk5 Golf GTI!

I don't think it will really compare with the 197, 182 or even 172.

It might get close in terms oh straight line speed and topend, but in the handling department they're going to have to do a lot of work to get to the same level

180 bhp 1.8T in this platform will be the same as the Ibiza Cupra. But that comes with AP four pot brakes and a big FMIC as std.
