power loss

Hi....A mate of mine with a 16v Mk5 had this problem occure last week...I was at a loss, but I wondered if any of you knew what is was likely to be?

He was driving along and the car loses power for just a fraction of a second, then carries on as norm...its happened 3-4 times on different days on diff road conditions, weather conds, full petrol tank, no dips on pedals, no warning lights.

Anyone any ideas?
