Mk1 Starting Issues (Fueling)

Post by SteB »

Right, I've been trying to get the old gal running again in order to put it back on the road in the next month or so, but have been having some problems

I believe we've traced the problem to a lack of fuel (runs briefly when you poor petrol straight down the carb... dont try that at home kids!), leading me to believe the fuel pump is buggered. Can anyone confirm to me that you can actually see fuel moving through the filter??

Anyway, anyone had any experience with these pumps? All i know is that theyre mechanically driven off a cam gear.

How do I dismantle one?
Am I likely to cover my driveway in petrol?
Can they be repaired/recon'd?
How much do they cost to replace and where from?

Cheers

Cheap and easy to replace the fuel pump

Yes you can see fuel dribbling through the fuel filter if your pump is working correctly 8)
