alternator help

mk 2 1983 a reg polo, been working fine but now after a massive thunderstorm the alternator isn't holding charge, been to garage to get it checked with one of their electrical gizmos and they say i need a new one, can't find any in the local scrappies, where can i get one? i'm in the south west (somerset) heeeeeeelp!

if i remember rightly i think groovycarrot had agreed to sell me his nearly new alternator and he was holding it till we see each other, i was just going to get it as a spare so i'm sure you could arrange with him as you actually need one?

oops sorry mate, i just checked through my PM's and it wasn't the alternator that i'd reserved, think it went to someone else.

have you checked on euro car parts and GSF? do brand new parts but they're normally quite reasonable
