Mine came and stayed on, on my MOT day a couple of weeks back. Sometimes it happens but fixes itself after driving a couple of meters then switching off ignition then startup again. It didn't this time but luckily my dad found the loose sensor, pushed it back in and they didn't charge for a re-test the next day.
I know this thread is old but it does match almost my problem.
Car was MOT'd on Friday, passed just fine. But yesterday and today I noticed that after one minute of running the car the ABS sensor light comes on and stays on. Twice in the last couple of days I've driven just a couple of miles to the supermarket, ABS light on after one minute, stop car at supermarket, quick shop, back in car (only away for 10 mins), after one minute of driving again the ABS light is on.
I know from previous times it did this that stopping the car and waiting a few mintues before restarting cured the light problem but this seems like all the time now, even if I stop for 10 mins.
Any advice? Might it just be the sensor gone or could it be a more serious problem? Presumably changing the sensor could be easy (didnt' check the Haynes manual just yet) or if there is a problem with the ABS would this be likely to be an expensive fix (obviously depending on the problem!).
Polo MkIV, N Reg (May 1996), 1.6GL, 85000 miles.
Thanks,
Kt.

Well, there is one way of testing to see if the ABS is working or not
just make sure its a quiet road and there is nothing around!!
I think there is a sensor on each wheel, and the connectors are under the rear seat, might be worth lifting the rear seat bench (assuming you have 60/40 split seats) and checking they are plugged in firmly
Cheers

Dirty sensors also have intermittent faults, so if you can find them and give them a good clean it might cure your light. The individual sensors are quite cheap, however if the ABS pump has failed then your going to be looking at a large sum. As suggested find a quiet spot, jam the breaks on and feel for the pump through the brake pedal, if its a sensor then only the wheel with the faulty sensor should brake without ABS
Thanks for the replies and advice.
Light didn't come on this morning at all (4 mile drive that took 15 minutes) so wondering if it's just intermittent following the MOT?
I'll keep an eye on things and will see if I can get him indoors to check anything or I'll take it to a garage for a diagnostics check.
Thanks again.
