Need motivation getting bored!

have been driving my 1990 Mk2 since I passed my test in 1996!!!!. It now has 107K on the clock never gives any bother......ever I did 12k last year and needed 2tyres and brake pipe for MoT(although the water pump has started leaking at night) but I'm just getting a bit bored I think. After it stayed the same (aside for a couple of wheel cover changes) I tarted it up a bit last year with chrome rims and clear indicators. The front seats are getting a bit tatty and the footwell is letting in water (from behind battery tray) and I've been getting loadsa stick for driving it and laughed at by random kids.
Was seriously contemplating a late MK3 Golf GTi.....although the Polo wouldn't be sold.
Guess Ishould maybe spend a bit of time working on it and sort wee things

Been thinking bout G40 or GT,but then I'd end up spending what a good GTi would cost to do it cos I'd want to change the seats and possibly repaint it etc too.
Was almost gonna buy a GT last year with this in mind,but it was too good to strip and it's back on the road now.

I'm a teacher and having the rep as the teacher with the crappy Polo isn't great,the only person who'd a car worse was a student teacher who'd a gambia red 87 breadvan a couple of years ago!

If it's dry tomorrow I'll maybe get stuck in and clean it all up again

As long as you love it, sod what everyone else thinks. Personally, I love having the record of owning the oldest car in regular use in our company.

Get that Polo cleaned and sparkling, gradually sort out the odd bits and pieces... (annoyed Mother tone: Did you ever check to see if the sunroof seals were available after I went to the trouble of getting you the parts diagram?

)...and have the bestest, unmolested Mk2 in NornIron!

If you want something unique and special, stick with the polo, it will always be special being your first car and you could do some great stuff to it, there are enough examples around here of successful mods.

If you want something to give you speed thrills then buy a GTi, but make sure you have considered the high road tax, insurance and fuel bill that these cars bring with them. Also the often more expensive and complex parts that they need. I have a 2.016v VAG engine in the Cordy and its relaible, but when it needs something its never cheap. Also there are loads of them on the roads and even worse some of them have lex-arse light upgrades.

I had a mk2 breadvan as my first car and i loved it, wish i never sold it, but i was tempted by leccy windows, airbags, a newer reg and a sunroof. Gone back to an older car with crazy miles and i am loving it again. It has strange quirks that make it special.

Cheers guys,probably go out and spend most of today cleaning it up.....just that everytime I do it gets boggin within a day or two and I'm back to square one.
Engine upgrade could well be on the cards though at some stage.....along with a respray next year

haven't gotten round to it yet as a few other things came up and of the 3 cars the polo normally ends up last to get attention,as it generally just soldiers on

haha, yeah my derby is the oldest in the company car park by a good long way.

My other car is a 67 bug and I had an 81 cortina too so I always had the oldest.......although a mate was working at the place for a while and out did me with his 66 bug.

The water pump is just constantly dripping now

this is what snoop dogg would sya if he wnated you to lower it! Lovely car I almost got rid of mine a couple of months back, tahnk god I didn't.

don't worry about what people think, only get rid if you want.

and am I the only one noticing a surge of polos now appearing on the road?

hehehe yeah, that's the solution - put two fingers up to them and PIMP IT

after all, think of the severe amount of cash you've saved running the same alarmingly reliable car for ten solid years (similar idea - though with a rather more flimsy citroen xantia - kept my dad mobile whilst he was on the IT-slump breadline)... time to repay it!

I think some black deep dishes with silver rims (like your current left-hand-side wheels), 40 or 60mm drop, respray in metallic purple, slight tints, white sheepskin interior, 1500w ICE system, chrome roofrack and pipe-trim, set of rally spec foglamps... sorted

Colour will be kept the same,although I may go for some GT/saloon steels as they are deeper.
Need to get a water pump fitted soon.

seriously considering a GT / G40 transplant.

What's the 0-60 in a GT???

Hello.

I have just bought a cheap Polo GT.

I have started to strip it out, my intention is to sell of as much as I can to make enough money to pay off the cost for the new parts I want to change when doing the engine conversion into my mk2 breadvan.

The GT engine is reliable and fun, I also have a G40 but I can't be arsed with another one, especially as my daily as I would be urged to make more power.

I have worked out that the new parts (GSF mainly) will set me back around about Â£400.00 tops if I buy new fuel pumps and lambda probe aswell, otherwise about Â£250.00.

I love my breadvan, it's got loads of character and I think it deserves this better engine.

P.S I have a full mk3 GT squareback interior amongst other things

Yeahj I think MK2s have more chareacter and prefer the idea of a sleeper MK2 GT/G40
