Would '00 reg Polos have p/s & airbags as standard?

Post by lyndarthemerciless »

I'm lookin for a '00 Polo & wondering what I should expect for my money - would they have come with p/s & driver's a/b as standard or would these have been extras?

The reason I ask about these specifically is that I called a woman about a nice-lookin '00 Polo she has up for sale and she told me it has no p/s etc... but then when I came in to work this morning and had another look at the pics of it on the internet, it looks like there's at least a passenger a/b..?!

Also: should the steering wheel in a '00 reg look more like this and eh less like one out of a '96 Polo..?

Any ideas at all welcomed, ta in advance

All 2000-2002 (Mk5) Polos came with driver and passenger airbags, ABS and power steering as standard across the range.

The first photo there shows what looks to be an early Mk4 steering wheel. What that is doing in a Mk5 is beyond me, but it shouldn't have been there from the factory and won't have a drivers airbag.

The second photo is, as you say, what a Mk5 interior should look like with a drivers airbag equipped steering wheel.

And to be honest I'd leave the one without a drivers airbag alone.

Thanks for that Redline. Yeh I thought there was something a bit suspect about that steering wheel alright, just wanted to double-check with the experts here before I scrapped it as a "maybe".

The search for the perfect Polo goes on... and on... and on..! :?

chances are shes crashed it, both or just the drivers air bags have gone off and she opted not to pay the extra that it costs to get the mkV steering wheel with airbags.
and if the passanger side went off too she might have just got the dash recovered and not bothered with the bags.

definately avoid!
