Sometimes when I have the car parked up and put the handbrake down and start to take off she doesnt move, then all u hear is a big "Clunk". After that she will go 100%. I know this is the rear brakes in connection with the handbrake. Anyone know why this is happening and /or a solution.

This used to happen to mine when parked up for more than a couple of days (in the garage). First time it happened I thought I'd ran over something. I just leave the h/brake off now. I know it's happened to other MK5 owners as well, but they don't seem too bothered about it. I don't think it's a major problem; if it was I would have got it checked believe me. HTH.
if it has been raining the brakes do seems to rust quite quickly. could the tolerance between the caliper and the disk be so small that the rust and bridge the gap?
this is the worst case:
i had major probs with this in the past. thanfully sorted now. took the garage 2yrs to find out the problem. went though a set of rear discs every 6 months and lost count the times it went into the garage on the flat bed. during the colder months the brakes just wouldnt let go and with having a diesel sometime you wouldnt notice until you were half way to work and could smell them. in the end the garage had it over night and put the ramps on an incline with my car on them. the next day they found that there was a small crack in the hand brake pipe which was freezing and holding the brakes on.
i blame the incompetant delaerships and have never taken it back to them. now use toyota to service it, who offer far better service.
