Help with bonnet lifts?

Hi,

I bought a set of Polo INXX bonnet lifts off eBay and the instructions are in German.

I'm trying to figure out how to install them so need some help.

With the lifter itself are they fitted with the cylinder end attached to the bonnet and the piston end to the wing or the other way round as I 've seen different cars with different positions?

They came with one 'machine threaded' ball joint bolt and one 'self-tapping' type of ball joint bolt which is fitted to the bonnet hinge and which to the wing?

Also where do I drill?
