Re: Don't know anything about the G40
G40's are a Supercharged 1.3. Insurance can be crazy figured from high street companies but if you find a vw/performance car specialist it isn't as bad. I believe the insurance group is either 13 or 15!samil87 wrote:what kind of engine is in the G40?

The G40 will be one hell of a different car to the Mk5, with very little luxuries. G40s are only reliable if you don't skimp on regular maintenance, other Polos in the range you can take the p*** a bit more with - but a G40 is a car you really need to keep on top of!

yep basically what pettsy said!!
the maintainence is a major part of owning a g40!! the supercharger is the item that needs most attention, if this isn't looked after then u may as well say goodbye to ur car or the money u earn lol
my bro has bought another car just to take the g40 off the road this winter so that the supercharger can be rebuilt (its long overdue). this will cost him c.£350 and this is just a standard rebuild/refurb! more if u want to upgrade/uprate!!

It depends on how you want to keep it and how you intend to drive it, Steve Sherwoods for example is his daily drive. Although he maintains it well it's proof that they are useable daily drivers.
I would suggest that a charger rebuild is one of the first things any owner should do along with new filters, oil, sparks and leads, lambda probe ect.
A standard one shouldn't be too much more to maintain than any other car so long as you drive it with respect and not off the limiter.
One like mine on the other hand (no proven power yet, predicted to be on the better side of 150bhp) will need a little more maintenance, mine hasn't seen the light of day for the past year and a half, it probably won't for another year or two which by that time it will need constant maintenance.
A polo GT on the other hand are seriously nippy, I know of two 90bhp ones that stick with standard G40's untill 50mph. GT's are also bombproof, cheaper to buy and far far cheaper to insure being insurance group 8 compared to the G40 which is 15/16
