Gearbox help required.

I'm new to the forum, Im sorry my first post is a question.

I have recently purchased a R reg 1400cc polo with Gearbox trouble.
I've since removed the gearbox and found the end cap casing full of swarf, so I can safely say my gearbox is U/S.
My gearbox is the Cable Gear Linkage type with the numbers 48DKF13038.
My local Breakers has about 4 Polo's of the same age all with the same looking gearboxes in them, all appear to be the same Cable Gear Change Linkage, but none have the similar numbers etched on the gearbox housing under the distributor.
Is this the correct code for my gearbox, or are the others all likely to be the same?

Any help would be much appreciated

you say its a cable change? is it the 16v engine or the 8v engine that you have? i am pretty sure all 8v's were rod change.

Its an 8 valve.
Its deffinatly the cable type as its got the two seperate cables going to the selector on the rear of the gearbox.
The ones over my local breakers appeared all to be 8 valve, but some had cable and some had rod gear change linkages.
I was just wondering if there was any difference in 1400 8 valve gearboxes as mines got a DKF number and some had no number at all.

my gearbox went it was the bearings that ent in mine !
oh well sorted now :D
