6N2, Gear Problem

hi, just wanted to know if anyone could shed some light on what may be the problem with my car (6N2 Polo, 2000, 1.4mpi)...

i was only just pushing near 70mph on a motorway...but while i was in 5th gear, the gear shift seemed to want to pop out from 5th and made that noise you would hear if you tried changing gear without clutching properly...
this happened several times and each time it happened, my rev seemed to die down for a second and the car seemed to lose power for a second then everything would be ok again.

i have no clue of what this may be? anyone with any clues? would be grateful to hear your views. cheers!

O dear mate, i'm sad to say you may have a problem with your gearbox. Mine was doing this before i had my bearings replaced and gears adjusted. It will most probably get worse until you take it to a garage to look at it.

I think it's to do with the 5th gear end float or something where it's not fully engaged when you put it into 5th, so the cog will keep popping off and disengaging.

was doing this too in my 6n and then something had broke off int he gear box and is rattling about, had to get a new box as it was cheaper than gittin it fixed

hey guys! thanx for the replies! answer to Bepe's question, no i dont think it whines, but ill listen carefully next time...wow so how much would a new gear box cost approximately?...

Oh man more bad news 2day....my car seems to be jerking while am driving along!!!! basically, you know how if you tried starting off in 2nd gear, your car would jump a couple of times then stall, thats whats happening while am driving...it jumps in like all gears up 4th (havent been in 5th lately) and then the car carries on like normal....it happens now and then...NO CLUE WHY!!

Also, today, i seemed to have to put so much gas in before the car would start moving and ive just like changed the clutch 2 weeks ago!! Usually when am stopped on an upward hill, i would release the clutch till it reaches biting point and put a lil gas in and it would move off..but today, it wasnt moving when i did that and it would even stall, unless i put ALOT of gas in!! my rev counter would shoot up to like 3000rpm just to move off...

Does anyone have any more advice on my car problems

sorry to share all these problems with you guys, im gonna take it to a garage on monday and hopefully they will find out exactly whats wrong with the car...cheers again guys for the replies, keep them coming

well i managed to sorce a gear box for Â£55 on the scottish vag site and had a 80mile trip to pick it up, but just try round scrappys etc, i found one at a scrappy and he wanted Â£75

forgot to say its gittin fitted for Â£30, trick is get to no people that can fix this sorta stuff
