Clutch needs replacing on MKV I'm looking at

From a quick read of the "Known/common faults" thread, it looks like MKVs have a few issues with clutches... Do ye think it would be "normal" for a 1.4l '00 reg with 50,000 miles on the clock to have a knackered clutch? Or might it mean something a bit dodgy, like it might've been clocked..?

Mine went @ 50,000 miles recently.. i took it down to my local VW and they fixed it for free as it is a common fault on the mk5 polo's.
