how much and how easy
how much and how easy
Hi im new to vw's. I just wanted to know how hard and if possible to super charge a mk4 polo 1.4 8v 1995 and if so how much? If anyone could help, it would be much appreciated thanks matt
it has been done, but im pretty sure its well into the region of 3-4 grand and to me that sounds totally pointless, cos your only gonna end up with Polo GTI figures. You can get everything you need from a scrapped GTI for a conversion for 500 quid or less.
It is one of the most pointless performance mods iv ever seen. and a complete waste of cash.
Save your money mate!

Putting a G40 engine into a 6n2 will not make it quicker than a GTI. The G40 engine is only 113bhp as standard whereas the GTI is 125bhp standard. Yeh the G engine will be lighter, but it wont be enough to make it any quicker than a GTI. G's are so quick cos they weigh a bag o crisps!PeteJ wrote:but its possible to swap in a g40, and that much more than gti figures.
same with a g60.
no idea on cost but the engine are relatively cheap.
thanks to all
thanks to all what helped me with my 1st problem now does anyone know how easy it is to fit a gti lump and what are best brakes to fit or are gti ok for the job in hand and does any one no where i can get some borbets or r10 turbos rims at a good price and does any one have any 2nd hand parts for sale thanks matt
Re: thanks to all
If yo uhave all the parts regarding the conversion, then it should be very easy!bulb1982 wrote:thanks to all what helped me with my 1st problem now does anyone know how easy it is to fit a gti lump and what are best brakes to fit or are gti ok for the job in hand and does any one no where i can get some borbets or r10 turbos rims at a good price and does any one have any 2nd hand parts for sale thanks matt
As for wheels.....try dubmeister.com
Also keep an eye on the forsale section on here and clubpolo
Yup thats the one i was talking about in my original post. Pretty sure it was a 1.4 8v. Waste of money like!Ollie_R wrote:There was a white Mk4 at E38 with an Eaton supercharger on it. I can't remember who did it, but I think it was either a 1.3 or a 1.4 litre engine.
Apparently it wasn't making that much power to justify the cost of doing the conversion.
Yeh youve hit the nail on the head there pete. With the GTI, if your on a budget, then you'd easily be able to tune it to 150bhp or so and that will be with very high reliability. With a g40, you can quite easily tune it to 170-180bhp for similar money, but then reliabilty issues will really be called into question. A G60 engine is 180bhp standard i think, but would be a tighter squeeze under the bonnet.PeteJ wrote:dee-vub to clarify i did mean for tuning.
obviously in standard trim its not that good in a 6n/2 chassis, but when its pushing out around 170+bhp i should imagine its much better.
the g60 would be similar, slightly larger power figures, but a less reliable unit.
