Clarkson Reviews the New Polo GTI

He gave it four stars, and finally reviews it sometime towards the end
He goes on about remapping, and says "So why not simply change the map and, hey presto, you have a 237bhp Polo. Wow. With something like that, you could bend time."

I guess he likes it then. But he still would prefer a Mini

This made me laugh, too.

"So instead of buying a £13,000 Mini Cooper, go for an £11,000 Mini One — which is exactly the same — and then pay someone with an Oedipus complex a hundred quid or so to change the map."

The thing that gets me about the article is that he basicly says why bother changing maps, as they cant be as good as the manufactures, then concludes that he'd have a Mini One, but with a remap!

Or am I missing the joke?

As Dean says though, he is funny!

I think he's just explaining the Pro's and Con's of remapping in his article. He decides if you remap a Polo GTI to 225bhp, it'll be too much (I doubt you could get to that figure with just a simple remap, however), and you'll eventually end up probably wrapped round a tree. If you remap the Mini, you'll be saving yourself some money. He's going on about the what the right amount of power for the cars should be, and comes to the realisation that the GTI's 150bhp is more than enough.

the only thing is that he is supposed to review the car not 2 pages of dribble and a paragraph at the end.
