Scratched my Polo

Post by mikehowett »

Hey guys,

Need some help. I've put about a 1 inch scratch in my polo on the rear wheel arch. It's gone all the way back to the bare metal but the panel isn't dented. Any idea how much i'm likely to pay at a VW dealer to get it sorted? No pics at the moment, will try and get one tomorrow.

Thanks!

HAHA dealers???

don't go to the dealers for something like that, best bet would be one of those scratch and dent companys that travel to you, e.g chips away?

wouldn't cost toooo much for a scratch like that i suspect

but best thing is to ring around your local companies :)

Was thinking about someone like them, but was worried about them matching the colour.

I used Chips Away when I had my last car and you wouldn't have even known they'd sprayed it. The Colour match was great.

Went down my local dealer today and they quoted me £420 to fix it

Will need to look elsewhere I think.

Anyone know a good bodyshop in Surrey? :P

Mate,
Just noticed a very small scratch/paintowork chip today on the left corner of my rear bumper :( about half an inch to an inch roughly
Not very big or highly noticable but annoying! I was looking into chips away and there supposed to be getting back to me with a quote

You sorted out anything with yours yet? I dont think it would cost a lot for something small. Im hoping anyway
Let me know how much if you dont mind?
Cheers

Nope, nothing sorted yet. Thought I would try chips away just to see what they thought but i'm waiting for them to get back to me. Am away all next week, so probably not gonna get anything done until at least the first monday in Dec :( Really need to get it covered so it doesn't rust, but I have n idea what to put on it????

Good point!
Wouldnt rust that quickly though would it? I wouldnt have thought that it would rust that quickly. Not sure thought to be honest.
Im going to try and get mine done a.s.a.p. it didnt look that big when I got it into the light but because I know its there and I can see it, its annoying me!
What colour is yours? Mine is reflex silver. Hopefully they will be ok with the colour match. I cant see it being a bodged up job

Mines diamond black pearl effect. Not really sure about the rust either, don't really want to risk it tbh. Silver should be easier to match that my colour I would have thought. The whole colour match issue is what's making me hesitant about using chips away. I don't want to end up with a patch of odd colour :(

Apparently Silver is actually a very hard colour to get a perfect match on

As for the rust issue, I should imagine it'd be ok until you get it sorted, I'm pretty sure VW's have a galvanised body.

Yeah I think your right on the galvanised body!
Grrr its annoying me loads this morning lol I know theres prob more important things to worry about but I only had it 4 months and some idiot has scuffed it!
If it was very faint it wouldnt bother me

You can buy paint sets from the dealers cant you? I found an invoice for one with all the service invoices from the previous owner when I got my car. Wasnt very expensive either

Yes you can, I have a touch up pen (with deruster) which cost about £3 and a can spray set which is a can of flash red and a can of laquer, which cost about £7!

just keep the area polished
silvers hard to get a perfect match on but the way we (chipsaway) do it you wouldn't notice the difference
i think you'll be looking around £100 all in for your repair

Had chipsaway come and have a look this week and whilst he said he could remove the scratch, he wouldn't be able to remove the dent. He did however recommend a good bodyshop so i'm gonna take it there on Monday:)
