Induction kit Pro's & cons

Post by shantybeater »

Hiya, Whats peoples views on induction kits? I've got one dude telling me that they make the car sound better and improves the brake slightly & in no way cause more wear or damage to the car...and another who says it can screw things up?

So is it a good idea or not? Don't want to harm my gti in anyway :?

Depends on what induction kit you are intending to fit but in principle its not a bad idea

I've got a BMC induction kit on mine (and several other owners have one too). It makes a great noise 8) doesn't make any trouble and possibly adds 2 or 3 bhp to the car's power output. It definitely feels more responsive though, especially towards the top of the rev range! The only downside is that your fuel consumption will go up slightly (you might get 10-15 miles less out of a tank of fuel) but thats about it.

Cheers

No need for one...

Ive just put a pipe going from my wing (where the standard pipe was) going straight into my airbox.

It sounds pretty much the same as the BMC...and the power feels exactly the same as the BMC.

No need for one in my opinion, but if you want to buy one...im selling mine

How big is your throttle body?
Measure it.

Spend £150 on a BMC.
Measure it again.

Same size?
Your not getting any more air into the engine then ;)

Induction kit will give you a noisier engine, thats about it IMO.

In my opinion, the induction kit on the GTI isn't worth it.

The reason being is that the airbox sits on top of the manifold and ends up getting hot anyway. So there is no advantage to the induction kit except for the louder sound.

If the airbox was located on the side then it would be more benificial.

To be honest it is a bit of a rip off. £160 plus £50 for a good cold air feed. When I finally get a good feed if it's still the same I'll probably sell it and get a panel filter

A good air feed is always the key!! Just use the standard airbox and slip in a panel filter! Will do just as much id think. Thats what im gonna do and have a good air feed.

thats why you get an enclosed one like the bmc, rather than a s**t open one :D

Before my BMC I timed my GTI 8.3 to 60 with a stop watch. When I got the BMC I tested it on the same road, same time, same conditions, same amount of petrol and it was just over 9. Noticed it is worse in between gears from when I originally got it

Although its enclosed, it doesn't stop it from absorbing the heat.
Its not heat resistant.
