GTI Gearbox Failure

Since there is a lot of this going on i thought it would be a good idea for everyone to post in here so we can log exactly how many people have had their gearbox fail.

Currently on my third, its whining so it needs its fourth! Granted all the boxes installed were second hand, but they were all lower milage than the car (currently on 72k)

mine is on its way out. Going to need replacing in the next 2k miles or so max.

I've done 34k miles and on my first one, no major signs of anything wrong yet

how do you know if your gearbox is knackered or on its way out?

my first one went at 75K or so. I then put in a second hand one from a gti with only 48K on the clock. that one failed on my car within a further 4K

current box is a recon box with warrantee. so yes, im on my third one basically.
