Electric problems

Post by kapur »

Right, have managed to clean my car from the inside today. Looks sooo much of an improvement

I've noticed that the courtesy light (located just above the rear view mirror) isn't working. Have tried a new bulb (think it was new anyway), and it still doesn't work.

Anyone have any ideas on if this light uses a fuse? If so, where is the fuse located for this bulb only? I know where the fuse box is, but which fuse do i look at or for?

Secondly, the car aerial isn't actually working. I.E. I physically can't find the wire for the aerial in the centre console. Are these available to buy seperately?

Oh, and thirdly. The car currently has a Panasonic CD player in it. How-ever, when i took out the Panasonic CD player, and stuck my head-unit in (with my wiring that works and all), it didn't work. Didn't even light up. What are the blue wires for in the wiring of the car? If i remember correctly, one is a remote power on for the amp. So which one is for the power? :? Am i right to think that one is a power cable and i am supposed to hook it up to a cable that is already in? Am so badly confused. I'm normally good with my electrics too. But, haven't changed a head-unit for about 2 months so have forgotten a little too.

I know that the head-unit and the wiring are 101% working. What could the problem be? :?

Just remembered another problem. When the front engine fans start (i think they the ones that are used to cool the engine down), they are really squeeky. How do i get around this? Bet it's a simple fix.

Check the door contact switches, have a look in haynes for the fuses. It will be in the fuse box under the bonnet.

The live is red, theres no switched (ignition) live as standard, they have to be fitted seperately (unless someone already has).

Thanks for the reply.

Still confused as to why the new head-unit didn't work then. The old one seems to be working fine. :?

About the door contacts, i've tried both switch positions (permanently on and door position n den deirs off in the middle). It's off all the time :?

Hi guys,

I'm a newbee in the forum and a newbie with cars.

Discovered your forum, looks great! 8)

Anway, just to say that I have exactly the same problem as kapur!

Also I have electric windows in my polo 1991 CL hatchback 1043cc, I was wondering if they were original or if the previous owner did a DIY job??

Basically I was pretty surprised when I saw hardhitter's reply
Check the door contact switches
because yesterday when I tried to put my new radio in the car I had a sort of problem?! => the car wouldn't start with the driver's door closed!

The indicator light was constantly on and the oil and water light too!
So for the moment I unplugged the door connector and screwed it to the chassis!!!!!

It looks like the previous owner did a whole cock up in this electric installation and that i'm gonna have to it all over again.

For the light though do you know witch fuse it is?

Thanks for your help.

Also has anyone got an electrics scheme of my car ?

Cheers

i have just installed a orignal VAG mk3 electric window kit, i dunno how u can tell its original beacuse all the mechanisums are behind the door card. but the orginal switches are located right nxt to the ciggi lighter, two little switches fit in that hole that used to b there, so if thats where there located u probs have the VAG kit.
