*** Car starting Problems *** EEk !!

Post by Arnoldo »

Ok started the car tonight. Np. Then stopped up the road to pick up some m8s and turned off the car. Note that its freezing point outside*. Anyway went to get the car started and she just ticked off. There wasnt even a sign that she might start. Only got her started by rolling start. That was ok...stopped again up the road and same thing happened. M8 had jump leads and used them and they worked. I then switched her on and off and she started most times I did it. SAy 8/10 times she started np the other 2 she would just tick over.

My problem....Anyone know what could be the cause? I think its either battery or something to do with the alternator. I dont think its the temp sensor as I had that problem before and she would splutter but in this case she wouldnt even splutter. Another thing is that the battery light went on and then off as normal when placed in to third click in ignition (one before start).

Really need help on this as I need the car for crimbo :(

Cheers

It sounds like it could be the battery. the fact that it doesnt even try to start irons out problems with like dirty sparks and all that. Try charging it on a quick charge charger - mite fix the problem. Then, if it starts fine after that, and then begins to occur again your alternator could be to blame:P

Having a similar issue myself... My battery has been dead for 2 months and now I have the car back on the road but the battery doesn't seem to be charging up properly or needs more charging. If it's the battery it's no big deal... if its the alternator that needs changing it's a bigger issue.
Drive the car around for a while and see if it's recharging and check if it turns on again after a few hours... If that fails go halfords and buy a new battery and see if that solves the problem... if that fails then it's obviously not the battery so go return the battery  and get the alternator checked.
(Could also be the power cable Im told but Im unsure of this one??)

(Thats what Im thinking of doing but will give it a few more days to see what happens)

Hehe - didnt read that very well earlier. Last week I bought a new battery for my dads van (a VW transporter), and it wasnt needed in the end. The alternator had packed up - well it was 16 years old hehehe.

Halfords wouldnt take it back :( Pretty miffed at that
