Hey folks,
Recently, in the last few months, I've noticed a really loud humming when my y2k 1.4 60bhp (28,000) reaches 70 mph on m'ways (obviously, I don't exceed the limit, hee hee). The rev counter is still pretty low and below this speed its good as gold.
Could anything be loose? Anyone have any thoughts?
Cheers in advance,
Marc
Loud humming at 70mph
The rear wheels on our cars have a tendency to start 'Cupping' (or however the British would call it
). Because the rear wheels are pointing inwards, (a.k.a. Toe-in), the inner side wears differently than the outside of the tyre.
After a while, the tyres start to make noise which could be what you're experiencing.
If the tyres are new on the other hand, a wheel bearing could be faulty.

Wheel bearing are easy to do, just remember not to throw you old ones away before you have installed the new ones your going to need them to help drift the new ones into the hub, best bet is to get yourself a Haynes manual as well, and read through the chapter a few times, better then sitting in the road with rain running down your neck trying to read the page.
