Reasonable price for a G40?

Hi,

First post and I'm looking for some advice - any opinions welcome.

I've been offered a 1991 G40 and I'd be interested in what people think a reasonable price is.. I've taken a look at it and the car is in pretty good condition although not perfect.

The good :

90,000 miles, full service history, no major dents or rust that I can see, no modifications from standard, interior is pretty good.

The bad :

odometer doesn't seem to work & there's a leak into the boot from somewhere - it was wet. seems to be a slow water leak from the cooling system - apparently it needs topping up every couple of weeks.
Also, I have no idea if the supercharger has ever been serviced.
paintwork is rough (worn through & faded) in a few places.

My feeling from looking on the web is that £2200 seems a reasonable price. Can you let me know if I'm way off here?

I'd say around £1600-1800.. maybe less

if the odometer doesnt work then surely it wont be adding up the miles? be very carefull with this as for all you know it could have had the clocks changed or could be on 130k.. if they havn't worked for a year or two :roll:

the heating.. could be that the radiator has a hole in it.. that happened to mine. if theres no charger history then assume it's not done and you'd have to get it done asap at that milage which is going to cost another what 350-500?

take the plastic boot panel off and look for internal rust or it could be from the aerial, dodgy paintwork I'd check for signs of rust all over the car..

I just sold a g40 for £2000 modded 159bhp full history and I mot'd it 2 days before sale. I sold a standard g40 for £1600 with a rebuilt charger and again a brand new mot. i dunno maybe im undervaluing them?

Also remember, it's the kipper season. The seller might well be skint from Christmas (like a lot of potential buyers), and therefore open to a stupid offer.

OK, thanks for the information, looks like I was a little high.

I think the problem is the guy paid too much for it in the first place so probably won't want to come down to a reasonable price without some delicate negotiation.

also depends on how many g40 are available when you go looking for one. ask if you can see the old mot certificates to back up the milage too.

theres on on ebay at the moment, 190bhp ex jabba demo car, full history and everything for £2750? and private plate, you could buy that and immediatly sell the plate and a few extras and get 750 back. have a very fast g40 and only would have cost you £2k

Just been reading this thread and was wondering what would be a reasonable/good price for a '91 G40 with 106,000 miles, full history known, 2 previous owners (plus the current one), lifetime stainless exhaist, original 13" BBS alloys?
