Agreed with everyone else, no to 17's on a polo (well, pre 2002 anyway).

Get a nice set of 8+9x15"s, looks far better, and you still get the horrible scrub problems you would get with 17's!

Remember, "if you ain't scrubbin', you ain't dubbin"

i run 17s on mine since march, had it lowerd 35mm for ages and was way to high. got it on coilovers bout a month ago, not sure how low it was, this is it........

i thought it looked ok when i got it on coilies, but, cudnt have passengers because it scrubd loads, so i got tired of that pretty quick! also 17s slow it down a stupid amount, i had forgotten how much untill i took them off last weekend, and now it looks like this.....
Image
its sooooooo much more fun on the steels, i think 17s can look ok, but i wudnt recomend them. fucks the handling completely. im now on the hunt for 15s, just because you will never get it low on 17s.
oh and also full lock is not a problem!

Had 205/40/17 tyres, cheap as chips lol

Wow, I didnt realise everyone had such an avid hatred towards 17" wheels on Mk5's...

Anyway, if you want 17's go for it. 15's may be more practical and all that but ive had no problems with my 17's and glad i got them!

the difference in weight alone between 15s and 17s is pretty huge, even the difference between my 7J and 8J wheels is surprisingly large. Added weight = lower speed

in theory the rolling circumferance of bigger wheels means for slower acceleration but a higher top end, i'd say the lower acceleration vastly outweighs the higher top end though

Yeah, 16 inch wheels slow it down loads, and since having steelies put on, my mpg has increased significantly. Go for 15's. I used to have a set of 15" OZ F1 Cups, which are really light wheels on my Polo, and it was loads more fun to drive compared with my 16's.

Yeah, you can get 15" RX's and RXII's (from the GTI). You can also get 14" one's too, from BBS Japan.

Gold 14" RX's 8)

I'm sure someone like G-Werks can import them for you. The 14" one's would look awesome on any Polo :D

Unless your names Jordan, -80 to 100mm on 17's or 150mm at shows

Not too sure if he still has it though.
