Wiring 6x9's? (Mk4 polo)

Hi,

Just got some 6x9's for my Mk4 polo and just have a few questions:

1) Can the speakers be directly plugged into the back of the HU via the phono inputs? or do they have to pass through an amp first?

2) Is there any wiring on the Mk4 to help connect the rear speakers? or do i have to run speaker wire down both sides?

all speakers need to be amped either by the built in amp in the headunit ( very low power) or an external amp
