my first GTI, a few questions

Post by nafeGTI »

Hello all, i've just bought this motor ...

Image

and absolutely love it, have wanted one for about 3 years and now i do! I do intend to do a few mods but what with trying to buy a house in 2007 i wont have much money to do it! I've got a black GTI aluminium tax disc holder, ordered a sharks fin aerial although not sure how it will look and got aluminium sills and door pins on the way. also probably change the rear view to a black one oh and some TT pedals. sorry to throw so many questions at everyone but ....

1) is there a car manual that covers it because Haynes seems to exclude the GTi model.

2) where can I get a black badge for the grill, i've checked on ebay and there doesnt seem to be any

3) does anyone know how many GTI's were made in this model, i live in Swindon, Wiltshire and have only seen about 5 driving about

4) do you think bright red car mats are a bit too much or a good look

5) why doesnt my girlfriend understand my love for my car

This is a great forum as I'm happy that you lot are as obsessed about your VW as me!

hello and welcome to the forum

1) is there a car manual that covers it because Haynes seems to exclude the GTi model. = NO but you can try software manuals like ELSA etc.

2) where can I get a black badge for the grill, i've checked on ebay and there doesnt seem to be any . =VAG parts

3) does anyone know how many GTI's were made in this model, i live in Swindon, Wiltshire and have only seen about 5 driving about. = Someone on here said 3000 in the UK, I would thought more tbh

4) do you think bright red car mats are a bit too much or a good look = too much personally

5) why doesnt my girlfriend understand my love for my car. = She is jealous

This is a great forum as I'm happy that you lot are as obsessed about your VW as me!

Q1)Not sure about the haynes manual

Q2) Paint the badge yourself ,there pretty much obsolete now. Some of the ones on flea-bay are poorly done

Q3)I think there was 3000-4000 made although i could be wrong

Q4)I think they would show up mud etc quite bad etc at this time of year

Q5)Women dont understand ,mines hates it when i go out to muck around with mine, but when they want a lift somewhere its a different story

And do the usal re-search,pedal box ,gearbox ,clutch etc, other than that you will love your gti coz i love mine

Is it not called ETKA, not ELSA?

And no you wont get the badge from vag parts, they are obsolete. You'll have to do your own im afraid.

I remember hearing 2000 were made in britain, but that could be wrong.

Defo no no on the mats. Less is more my man

And your girlfriend is stupid! Nah my GF slates me cos im in love with my car so much

Not all women  , I love my GTi to bits :D

You won't be able to buy a black badge, have to make one yourself, did mine with satin black paint.

I think the mats would be a bit OTT TBH but then it is your car so if you like it,do it 8)

Welcome to the forum and enjoy all the smiles your GTi gives you, maybe one day your GF will come round? :)

Apparently there was 3000 bought over to the UK, 1000 in each colour (500 in 3 door, 500 in 5 door)

Welcome to the forum.

I changed my rear view mirror to a black one over the christmas period, and it makes so much difference viewing the car from outside. It was such an eye sore previously !

1) is there a car manual that covers it because Haynes seems to exclude the GTi model. I have the haynes manual and it is still quite useful for a lot of things (you would have to look up certain GTI specific bits though).

2) where can I get a black badge for the grill, i've checked on ebay and there doesnt seem to be any. Spray your own! its pretty easy, just some sanding with wet and dry and lots of coats of primer and matt black paint!

3) does anyone know how many GTI's were made in this model, i live in Swindon, Wiltshire and have only seen about 5 driving about. I'd agree with the 3000 (500 in each type) comment, thats what I've heard too. I expect if someone asked the dvla they could tell us how many are still registered, probably a lot less as there have been a good few written off!

4) do you think bright red car mats are a bit too much or a good look. Maybe a bit much on a black car? I have a red GTI with black mats!

5) why doesnt my girlfriend understand my love for my car. I'm sure she'll come round to it, having said that my boyfriend doesn't understand my obsession for my car, but I think he's just jealous because he wrote off his car on a corner with icey roads a couple of years ago and then went to uni so never got another one.
