Hello Members
I just want the oil thats more suite to the car, a VW Polo 1.4 E 'Petrol' Automatic, registration date was 18/03/2001 letter 'X' the first part of the engine number is AUD14****, the first part of the chassis number is WVWZZZ6NZ1Y******.

I use the car in London(UK) for commuting, but not in the rush-hour times and some Motorway driving occasionally.

We know the climate here are unprodictable, we do get freezing temps( winter), but also can get very hot weather (summer), and the VW engine is a Hydraulic valve type, and can be tappy if the oil isn't wright for it, it is also parked on the public road, and so is open to damp, wind and rain days.

I know there is an oil suited to my particular model of car, and that was told to me to be VW Quantum Sytha Silver 10w40 Semi-sythetic by the dealer, but this oil has been around for quite a while, and other forums believe there are better oils than this one, which they are using.

The actual oil in the car from my last service is Shell Helix Plus Semi-sythetic 10w40 (garage recommendation), and it runs quite well, but i think if i change the oil to something more suitable, i may reduce the drivetrain and tapping noise when cold, and make it even less than it is when fully warmed up, without reducing protection or cleaning action.

There are 3 other makes of oil, which i've so far found out to be considered better by other VW owners 'in the know' in the US, they don't include VW's Quantum, these are...

1:Motul (this is not Mobil missplet, just to let you know)
2:Castrol

..users who have these oils in there VW cars, are using 5w40 viscosity

3:And a different Viscosity of Shell Helix, this is Helix Ultra 5w40, this is a fully-sythetic, and i don't know if my car likes fully-syths, or if fullys are safe to use on it.

I have read so many web articles relating to the subject, but there seems to be know difinative other product, and that there are those who will only consider what the dealer recommends for the car.

If there's a concensus answer from other members here, who have a VW, possibly which was noisy, and got better results using other brands and weights, there help would be appreciated, particularly if they are using any makers above.

Any advice, recommendations or help would be really appreciated, as you can tell, i'd like the best oil for the engine, and it's running i can get.

Kind regards

5W-30 Semi or fully synthetic, brand is a matter of preference.

Oh, easy on the begging, you never know when you'll need it.

You are best using the exact oil from VW, its not too expensive and as I have posted before, I had trouble with other oils breaking down and coming form the beather.

Furthermore, and issues you have VW have to answer for.
