my 6n gearbox has a single metal rod linkage that goes into the box, from the gearstick, does anyone know if it is possible to get a new second hand gearbox, which has the cable linkages, and replave the whole, box, cables and gearstick.
hope that makes sense, been to the pub all afternoon, after finding out how much the thing costs.
any help........cheers guys
Gearbox questions............
i also have a gearbox question.....my 1.0l 4 cylinder 1996 polo isnt very good on the motorway, thrashing it at 70mph doing well over 4000rpm. so im wondering whether a 1.4l gearbox will be a direct fit and are the ratio's better? i dont mind loosing some lower end omph as long as its better at higher speeds
cheers

The 1.4's up at 4000rpm as well at motorway speeds, so no sense in you changing the box really.neb wrote:i also have a gearbox question.....my 1.0l 4 cylinder 1996 polo isnt very good on the motorway, thrashing it at 70mph doing well over 4000rpm. so im wondering whether a 1.4l gearbox will be a direct fit and are the ratio's better? i dont mind loosing some lower end omph as long as its better at higher speeds

Re: Gearbox questions............
i would guess it depends on how handy you are with a spanner, I would guess that should you find a MK4 with a cable box to take the parts off then it should all (in theory) swap over. If the box isnt off a mk4 then it could mean you rigging up your own cable system.Black Dub wrote:my 6n gearbox has a single metal rod linkage that goes into the box, from the gearstick, does anyone know if it is possible to get a new second hand gearbox, which has the cable linkages, and replave the whole, box, cables and gearstick.

Just out of curiosity why is it you want to change from rod to cable shift?
