Air coming from fual tank
Air coming from fual tank
Hiya.. The crazyiest thing keeps happening to me when im opening my fual cap to put petrol in. Every one knows the feeling when opening a well fizzy bottle you can feel the air wanting to come out when you take the lid off, well this is similar to what happens wen i take my petrol cap off. At first i didnt think any thing of it but now it happens very regualar now. Im well shook to open it sometimes in case it blows up on me. Anyone got an idea what this can be???

I had a tank implode when that happened.
It also happened on a Cessna 150, and because the tank was integral to the wing, it caused the wing to fold up. Ouch.
depends what your wing is stuck on with
There should not be any residual pressure or vacuum in the system. True you would get a vacuum as the engine uses the fuel, but you do not because it should come in through a breather via the charcoal canister. If there is a vacuum then its not comming in.
Best to work out why before it gets worse and you suffer fuel starvation issues, or crappy economy.

Lots of mixed views on this one, the problem it self dosen't happen all the time, just now and then. But if it starts to become a regular thing i will bring it to my local Vw to see what they say, as the car is under warrantie. I really hope is hasn't got a fauling problem thats building upJWC wrote: the tank was integral to the wing, it caused the wing to fold up. Ouch.
