Couple of wheel questions!

Post by AlexG »

Couple of questions, hope theyr'e not wheely hard :P

Right then, just got myself a polo 1.4 16 valve. It's got the standard alloys on at the mo (yuk!)
So, I wanted to get either some 13s/14s and fairly wide (staying as close to standard offset as possible), and then fit some stretched tyres.

But what I want to know is what are the limits to the sort of widths/tyre sizes etc that I can go to. Also will it need to be lowered or will there not be much of a gap between the wheel and arch?

Any advice is greatly appreciated (even more so if you've done something similar to your polo!)
Thanks in advance

Also I forgot to add, if I only intend on changing the wheels and not messing with the suspension then what is the best sort of size to go for?
Thanks in advance

First of all rule out 13s you wont get them on the valver as brake discs are too big.

Second of all I would opt for 15s maybe even 14s with et of around 37 with a rim thickness of 7j. This is my personal preference you can go silly wide with et of 15s and rim thinkness of 9 but just depends on what you want tbh.

lowering wise you would need about 60-70mm if 15s if you have 14s would advise on 80mm

Imo you wont get away without lowering the polo because standard polo suspension is 4*4 like unforunately :( but if worst comes to worst you could get a set of 40mm springs for relatively cheap and will look good but would look much better that extra 20-30mm down!

heres a pic of mine running 15*7 et 37 (15 inch rim) with 195/45/15 tyres.also car has been lowered 70-80mm not really sure tbh.

I would go 14" if you dont want to lower it,
it will sit like a 4x4, mine sat aweful on 15" standard suspenshion,

You can get 8" on the back and 7" on the front 8)
