ESP installing on a non ESP?

Hi there

My TDI sport never came with ESP, i know it was an optional extra but I was just wondering if it was possible to install it after its left the factory.

I read somewhere that you just need the switch + wires and a vag-com to change a few fields?? is that right?

I thought it would help me stay on the road without ending up in a tree?

or is the better option traction control?

Reason is, i'm looking to get a remap, it should make 150bhp tops, its already losing a bit of grip in 1st etc

Traction control will stop the wheels spinning and help regain traction.

ESP will correct any mistakes you make that effect the stability of the car.

I just personally don't like computers interfering with my driving experience.

i dont know.

i know i need it though!! slightest bit of damp and 1st and 2nd gear are pointless. i can even get the wheels to spin in 3rd quite easily!!

It's mostly down to what tyres you have too.

If i am using my Monty 2 alloys with bridgestone turanza tyres on they spin easy where as my Contour Alloys with Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's on don't spin as easy.

brand new pirelli p-zero nero's 205/45/17's. i have done about 300 miles on them.
cornering wise they are fine. just the car likes spining up, especially over 2000rpm

Ive got ESP on mine and it's helped me out one or twice. The traction control is part of the ESP and I've found it useful in snow/slush and on muddy verges on some of the lanes i drive on. I'd say it's handy to have on the diesels at least.

was just about to ask about ESP and now I know after reading this.

I find it unbelievable that you can spin it in 3rd on a wet road - jesus I can't get anywhere near that. 2nd struggles to break traction at all. I feel underpowered

anyhow, ESP is definitely good, I had it in the Passat and it worked well around corners allhough it did dumb it down a bit and felt a bit numb.

And it's really harsh on 1st gear, lots of juddering. personally I like it without but it does have advantages.

you can fit traction control as an aftermarket to any car with ABS IIRC.
