Hi,
I've been having a problem with my mk4. I'm driving around and out of nothing the car chokes and stalls.
If i try to turn the car again, i turn the key in the ignition and it just keeps making that sound cars make when they are trying to start.
And during this, the strangest thing happens : the "speedometer" needle keeps bouncing up and down. Like its possessed. from 0 to 120km back, etc etc.
But this is a sporadic problem. After two days of doing this it got good, out of nothing. It had also done me this once, back in the summer.
I've changed the sparks, checked the rotor, going to clean up the throttle, already changed the fuel filter, since it seemed like it was choking.
But now i believe it may be something electrical.
Any sugestions or tips on how to figure this one out? Because when i take it to the repair shop they say the car just runs fine!!!

i had the same trouble a couple of months ago. i serviced my car coz it was iddling and randomly reving. ( like it was possesed) its so annoying. so i serviced it and changed sparks and rotary arm, ditributor cap etc and it was fine but a week later it happened again so i took it to a garage and it was the idle control valve, its all to do with your ecu, you probably have faults in your ecu and if it is the idle control its rather expensive to sort. set me back £250. sorry dude
