VW do actually do an iPod kit, that plugs into the standard head unit - i've been told its not too dear, but then I've never looked into it.

i have the official VW iPod kit in my car. It's a really neat install (iPod is concealed in the glovebox) but there are a couple of niggles, for instance there is about a 2 second delay when changing playlists and if you try and do to many changes too quickly it gets rather confused and seems to resort to playing your whole iPod alphabetically.

Having said that great bit of kit, and should be compatable with future head unit upgrades as it connects to the CD-Changer port.

The only thing you might have to check is whether or not your head unit is compatable, i think post 2002 beta and gammas are fine.

Try looking on ebay for an alpine cd player. the ipod full speed ones are very good. But I was wondering how do you get the cd player to turn on with the ignition
