My car is on a mission to bankrupt me!!! :(

It all started when i took the car to VW last tuesday to get, what i thought, was a noise coming from the wheel bearing sorted.

Anyway, i went into the dealership, explained the problem, then a technician took it for a test drive and confirmed that he thought it was the O/S/R bearing making the noise. So i booked the car in for the next day after being told it was going to cost £103.

When i came to pick the car up the woman explained that they had replaced the wheel bearing but the problem was actually the tyres and that they had swapped the back ones over to the front which made the noise 10x worse!

On top of this, the work they had already done came to £143 (£40 more than i thought) + i needed 2 new tyres (went to kwik fit the next day and got this sorted), plus, a centre section for my exhaust system which had corroded (£154) and my high level brake light fixed (£55)!

Not only this but my cambelt is due (£310 @ VW) and i think my clutch is about to give up the ghost! Does anyone have an idea how much i can expect to pay for that?

Rought times by the sound of things... clutch will be £200+ easily... (probs £300 odd)

Don't give up... once it's all done it should be smooth sailing...

Unless ofcourse the gearbox goes (being a common gti problem)

It's not your car who is stealing your money. Main dealers and Kwik Fit are notoriously expensive. Try to find an independant VAG specialist you can trust.

i got a 1 litre x reg polo currently in my cousins garage........
its had a new clutch
engine rebuilt with new parts
gear box rebuilt with new parts
throttle position sensor replaced i think
i think its getting something done with the pedals to
2 new rear tyres
and mot'd as that ran out.

i dunno how much this is gonna cost but i havint seen my car for so long i nearly forgot what it looks like.

luckily he wont charge me the same amount as what a normal garage would but im sure it will still be fairly high.

I would have refused to pay for the wheel bearing if they miss diagnosed the problem.

I agree with vr6south, a reputable independent garage should be a lot cheaper than VW main dealer prices.

Well VW are qouting £543 for a new clutch.

Try Volksentre in Blyth mate. They recently fitting my FK Coil overs and I was quite happy with the job they did. Apparently the bloke Dave has been working on VAG cars for 37 years, so he knows his way round a VW.

Tyres go to Tyrespot, for eg. I got some Yokohama A539 for £54 fitted per tyre, thats good.
