help - wheel novice

Post by shantybeater »

okok, I have just joined the large collective of owners of GTi's with BBS RX's (because the RX II's are far too expensive). But they are white which may look good or s**t....we will shortly see, they are sitting on 225/40/16 wheels at the mo, will they fit right on? (other spec's: width: 7J, offset 42, 4 stud, 4x100 PCD).

225/40/16 will probably rub.

Ideally you need 195/40/16.

No you shouldn't need spacers, but Sally is right you will need 195/40/16 tyres.

Just a quick point, you might want to check the centre-bore as if the alloys have a smaller CB then even it the wheel and tyre are correct, you won't be able to get the wheel on the hub!

Surely the center bore will be right if its RX's??

Was this the white ones on ebay from the guy in Hartlepool? If so, they looked awesome on the black GTI they were on in the garage before it got stripped!

Vauxhall Calibra DTMs came fitted with white 16" BBS RX, and as far as I know they have a different centrebore to VWs.

Yeah they were the ones off ebay but from staines :o for the vauxhall calibra?? but I tried fitting them last night and I managed to get them on??? sadly they didn't fit as I need spacers (rubbed against brake calipers).... They look awesome but do stick out of the arches a bit. Does this center bore business mean I shouldnt put them on??

You'll probably need spigot rings to get your new wheels to fit properly, and if you treasure your life

The Calibra C/B is 65.0mm, according to this site.

My ones are the rx 214,s , they fit straight on and dont need spigot rings or spacers.
