lupo gti engine and 6speed box into a polo gti.

Post by my_little_polo »

Can anyone help me, i need to know if a running gear out of a lupo gti will fit into a polo gti also is it straight forward if not what mods will i need to do? Also which do you think is better a supercharger or turbo on the polo or lupo gti engine. thanx.

If i remember correctly, the gearbox is not a direct fit, has different mounting points...

This question has been asked many times before.

It won't fit straight in.

You'll find info if you click on the link below

If you used the engine and box then yes it will fit.
But you would need to replace the pedal box (the Lupo GTI uses a hydrolic clutch) and the gear linkage is also differnt.

If you can get an engine and box cheap enough I dont see any reason why you couldn't do it.

IMO though its just not worth it.
The gear ratios are better, but only just!

supercharger is full thru power, u have to wait for the turbo to kick in, so id say SC

Wouldn't more power just destroy the gearbox even more? It doesn't cope well with the standard power.

Might be predictable, but rather than the trouble of trying to add forced induction to the 1.6, why not drop a 1.8T in there?

The Loop GTI Gearbox is used on the Lupo cup cars with 180bhp.
There is more than one Lupo GTIs on our forum with over 180bhp with no problems at all.

TBH Ive never known one fail!

Sorry, I meant a supercharger or turbo on the Polo engine, therefore Polo gearbox, Lupo gearbox would be fine, but as Redline said, if you're going to replace the whole lot anyway - just do a 1.8T conversion.
