Check engine light

Hey, does anyone know wat it means wen your check engine light comes on then goes off after like a minuite :S the car sort off lost power while it was on, like missin and chuggin, then i put my foot down in neutral and the light went off and the car was ok then! but now, sometimes, in second at low revs, it will kinda like 'miss' or jolt wen i put my foot down

any ideas?
