Exhaust Emissions Warning Light????

Post by R.I.T.B »

:(

erm, someone explain? ive checked the manual and found out thats what the lights is, but its just randomly came on tonight. Not flashing and the cars driving fine.

the manual says get it checked asap(i wont be driving it til friday when it goes into the garage) but can someone suggest if its a common fault or possible problems? im just *pleased* its come on now and not in 3 months time when its out of gaurentee (i bought it from a 2nd hand garage) as i certainly wont be footing the bill :)

its not really that serious, its just a pain as it keeps putting the emissions light on every now and again.

Remember the gti has 2 lambda sensors, so get it on vag-com and itl tell which one is faulty

hmmmmmmmm........ :?

'apparently' the garage thinks its because i dont put the supreme unleaded in? they reckon cos its a gti its needs the richer petrol? they just try fob me off?

they've re-set the error codes things and want to know if it comes back on... i think they just dont want to fix it while under the 3 month warrenty.....

do u lot use the rich mans petrol lol?

It's recommended that the GTi runs on 98 RON fuel if you look inside the fuel filler flap. I believe on the basis of the 1.6 16v having a rather high compression ratio.

Whether it would cause the exhaust emissions light to come on through using 'normal' unleaded I'm really not convinced!

For reference however I do use Shell V-Power which is 99 RON.

Ours had had the light on for over a year.. cars fine altho prob uses more fuel. lambda's can go at anytime, from VW its about £100 for the new sensor.

Not sure about the fuel RON thing, I'd be a bit wary here.

HTH :D
